The historic Maschinenzentrale in the Speicherstadt provides a stage for this restaurant: high ceilings, steel girders, brick, warm wood and an impressive play of light. Despite its size, Chefs Warehouse feels lively and relaxed – urban, elegant and full of energy.
Eric Kröber's kitchen combines Cape Town's successful sharing concept with a signature of its own. Beef tataki with XO sauce, linefish with pulpo and saffron foam, or the legendary risotto all show real confidence with flavour. What stands out is a delight in silky textures and unexpected spice combinations.
The wine list has an appealing focus on South Africa. Alongside familiar grape varieties, there are plenty of exciting discoveries from small wineries, fairly priced and backed by confident recommendations from the service team. The bar impresses too, with distinctive signature cocktails – chief among them the Red Rooibos Negroni.
