Hamburg has thousands of restaurants. We recommend around 150 of them.
Not because they're the most expensive. Not because they carry the most stars. But because we think you can eat, drink and spend time there wonderfully.
The Menù is a journalistically curated restaurant guide for Hamburg – online and as an app. We visit restaurants ourselves, write our pieces independently, and help you find exactly the place that suits your evening.
Almost as if a good friend were recommending their favourite restaurant to you.
An editorial team, not a review platform
No stars. No points. No rankings. We believe a good restaurant is more than a number. So instead of describing how many points a restaurant deserves, we describe why we like to go back.
Our recommendations come from our own visits to restaurants, careful research and many conversations with the people who shape Hamburg's dining scene.
For Hamburg. And for everyone visiting Hamburg.
Hamburg is one of Europe's most exciting cities for food. With The Menù, we want to help even more people discover that.
That's why The Menù is published in several languages and speaks directly to international guests too. We want to inspire travellers while they're still planning their trip to Hamburg – and show them just how varied this city's dining scene is.
Independent. Curated. Always evolving.
Our selection keeps changing. Restaurants develop. New places appear. Others disappear. That's why we review our recommendations regularly and keep The Menù up to date.
We don't see ourselves as a complete directory of every restaurant in Hamburg, but as a carefully curated selection of places we recommend because we believe in them.
Who we are
The Menù is a project by Hamburg agency Kaiserhappen. For many years, we've been telling stories about food, restaurants and the pleasure of eating – for magazines, publishers, destinations and the restaurant trade itself. The Menù has grown out of that work into our own journalistic project.
Behind The Menù stand cookbook author and food journalist Stevan Paul and Kaiserhappen managing director Oliver Wagner, along with a growing network of writers and photographers who cover Hamburg with curiosity, taste and journalistic rigour.
We welcome your suggestions, tips and conversation.
